Module doors - inspection, testing & maintenance

Other than for access, doors have a number of subsequent roles. For the offshore industry in particular, the fire rating of a door and its air / water tightness all play an important role in ensuring the safety of the personnel and plant.

Doors will not last forever, especially in high use areas. Generally the seals will be the first to show signs of wear and tear and will require replacement. Door closers, hinges, sliders / rollers may also require adjustment, repair or replacement throughout the doors life. Doors that are subject to excessive pressure differences or extreme conditions may deteriorate even quicker and will require more frequent maintenance.

What does Door Maintenance include?

Simple maintenance, such as a regular visual inspection, can help identify early failure signs and / or deterioration which should be carried out on a monthly basis.

More in-depth maintenance, including greasing, adjusting and replacing components should be carried out on a 3-6 monthly basis.

Planned maintenance routines and door registers are an easy way of keeping track of the maintenance, spares usage, and should form part of any door maintenance strategy.

Do your doors need maintenance?

  • Are your doors easy to operate?
  • Have you carried out a visual inspection of your doors in the last 6 months?
  • Do your doors seal properly?
  • Are your doors in good structural condition?

If you answer NO to any of the above questions you should review your door maintenance strategy now.
